Lincoln Red Imps FC clinch the GFL title with 3 games to go!
Lincoln Red Imps FC have claimed the Gibraltar Football League title with three games to spare following their 4-0 triumph over Lynx FC last weekend. As a result, the club adds their 27th league title to their trophy cabinet and seals their place in the 1st Preliminary Qualifying Round of the UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, the battle for second and third in the Championship Group has ramped up with just 3 points separating 2nd and 4th, with Europa FC, FCB Magpies and St Joseph’s FC all battling it out for a place among Europe’s elite.
St Joseph’s FC clinched a 1-0 victory over FCB Magpies on Saturday afternoon to go one point from 3rd, whilst Europa FC returned to second place in the table following their 1-0 victory over Glacis United FC.
Lynx’s defeat pulls them further away from the European places, however, with 9 points still to play for, they remain within touching distance of 3rd, while Glacis United remain cut adrift from the pack in 6th place.
In the Challenge Group, Mons Calpe SC (1st) and Manchester 62 FC (2nd) continue to battle it out at the top, both inflicting 4-1 defeats over their opponents, Europa Point FC and College 1975 FC, respectively.
Lions Gibraltar FC find themselves firmly in the midfield, on 15 points, however with a game in hand over both Mons Calpe and Manchester 62, the boys in orange could yet make a late charge for second place in the Challenge Group.
Meanwhile, College 1975 with 7 points and Europa Point with 6 points will both be looking to pick up some late points to avoid finishing bottom of the division.
